News Flash from Mrs. Tracey!
Great job to all of our Harrison science scholars! Applications have been turned in and projects are in progress. Be sure to check your Science Fair checklist to make sure you are getting everything turned in on time. We do have trifolds available to present your findings. Just let your teacher know and one will be provided to you or your group. The Science Fair will take place on December 6 for the community viewing! Happy Experimenting!
News Flash from the PTA:
Duck Tape the Principal and the top 2 teachers who sell the most. Each strip of tape is $5. Be on the lookout for the flier to turn in your money. You are more than welcome to purchase more than one piece of tape. Last day to turn in Money is Wednesday November 16th. We will Duck tape on Friday November 18th. The day before Thanksgiving Recess. Make sure you come to school that day.
WHY SEL
SEL Skill of the Week:
This week, Mrs Airhart wants you to practice how to have a healthy conflict or disagreement. Remember, RECOGNIZE WITH YOUR EYES that it is NOT bullying if you disagree with someone - you can problem solve and come to a solution!
Look at the person
Remain calm and use a pleasant tone of voice
Both students tell their problem - being open to another person’s views
Both students brainstorm ways to solve the disagreement & choose the best solution
If you aren’t able to come up with a solution, ask an adult to help work it out.
- Tier 1 District & schoolwide SEL curriculum taught by classroom teacher once per week (your choice of day/time)
- K-1: 15-20 minutes
- 2-6: 25-30 minutes
- Scripted lesson plans and support for teachers to guide conversations (minimal prep!)
- There are engaging handouts, songs, and videos included
- There are daily practice activities to extend the learning (7-10 minutes per day)
- Second Step has 4 units; each unit is comprised of 5 lessons per grade + Brain Builder Games
- *6th grade has 6-7 lessons per unit with 200 advisory activities
- Please begin with Unit 1: Growth Mindset and Goal setting; the lessons are taught in sequential order for the most bang for your buck!
- Each unit will end with a performance task that serves as a summative assessment to directly apply learning and for teachers/counselor to see visible evidence of students' learning.
- Attached are the Alignment Charts with the Common Core Standards so that you can use Second Step as an ELA grade!
Nuts and Bolts
REPORT CARD INFO LINK
Make sure you let us know what you are teaching, the students should know the objective of the lesson they are learning. They should have Essential Questions that they can answer at the end of the lesson.
Make sure you are aware of the standards you are teaching, AND the rigor of those standards. Do not rely on the curriculum to meet the rigor. I placed an ELA standards progression document in your box.
